Learn about the story of Jawacdah and how the name came to be.

The Story of Jawacdah

Located in the rolling hills of southeast Indiana, JAWACDAH Farm was established by John A and Clara Hillenbrand as a family getaway for their children in the early 1940’s. The family spent weekends, holidays, and summers at JAWACDAH and as the family grew so did JAWACDAH. In the 1950’s the family began using the farm to host customers of The Batesville Casket Company and Hill-Rom Company. The farm proved to be a winning formula for customers visiting Batesville for meetings, product demonstrations and factory tours. In 1970 the companies purchased JAWACDAH from the family and in the ensuing decades the family and businesses continued using JAWACDAH for pleasure and business purposes. In 2021 the farm was repurchased by the family and is now available for corporate retreats and meetings. Thank you for your interest in JAWACDAH Farm.

The name “JAWACDAH” was created by our great grandmother Clara Hillenbrand which is a combination of the initials of her husband and four sons.
